Alguns dos principais CEO das redes livreiras inglesas manifestaram-se contra as vendas firmes no sector dos livros.

Não, isto não se passou na Praça do Comércio mas antes na conferência anual da Independent Publishers Guild, em Brighton, onde Gerry Johnson (Waterstone), Willie Anderson (John Smith), Vince Gunn (Blackwell), David Roche (ex-Borders), Bill Samuel (Foyles) e Kes Nielsen (Amazon) foram colocados para apedrejamento pelos editores independentes.

A frase mais aplaudida da noite veio de Gerry Johnson:

"Do you want an independent bookselling sector in your market?" [...] "This is the last retail market that has a significant representation of independent retailers, and you really have to decide whether or not you want to devalue that [...] Before we profess to resolve all [..] issues simply by putting firm sale on backlist, let's [...] promote the cause of the range bookseller."
